A charming, well-worn, 18th Century stag antler netsuke depicting a playful Shishi, seated with almost a grinning expression and large ears hanging down. Short hair curls run down his back with two longer locks of hair extending further down. The surface has formed a warm yellow patina with traces of inking still visible in the less worn recesses of the hair and claws.
Seated on a base, the Himotoshi is formed by one smaller and one larger hole cut into the dark nerve channel.
A genuinely pleasing Netsuke to hold and one that has clearly had many years of use.
