A large netsuke of a seated shishi with an unusual himotoshi. The surface is lacquered in red and gold, worn in places revealing the wood beneath, which has formed a wonderful patina. The shishi holds in its front paws a large brocade; unusually, it does not contain a loose ball but rather has been created to hide the knot of the cord. To the base, a large and deeply excavated hole runs through to the back of the ball.
