A cherry wood netsuke depicting a plump mother and puppy, the pup nestled under the mother with the mother’s front paw resting on the pup’s back.
Both dogs’ bodies are covered in fine hairwork along with delicately carved faces and paws. The surface of the wood is stained to depict piebald fur, with the lighter areas displaying a warm reddish-brown tone contrasting against the darker sections. The himotoshi is formed by a natural opening between the mother’s legs and the pup’s body.
