A lacquered netsuke depicting a hunter, the carved wood covered in red, green and brown lacquer with highlights in gold. The hunter is standing holding a matchlock gun in his hands. Interestingly, the base of the hunter has been carved in a dome and, when stood, the figure rocks from side to side in a way reminiscent of the roly-poly children’s toys. The himotoshi is formed by one small and one larger oval hole.
