This early lacquered inro features shell inlay and depicts six farmers carrying rice bales, with a pair of dragonflies above them. The farmers are rendered in red, gold, and black hiramaki-e, while the rice bales and the sashes of each farmer’s noragi are inlaid with a whitish-pink shell. Above, the pair of dragonflies in togidashi.
Togidashi is rarely encountered on such early inro, making this piece a charming and early example of the revered technique that later masters perfected.
