A woven pipecase, decorated with lacquer and shell inlay, portrays a pair of ducks resting on a riverbank beneath a blossom tree. The riverbank and tree are rendered in lacquer, while the pair of ducks is delicately carved and inlaid from a beautiful section of pinkish-white shell.
The case is signed but has worn over time, making the signature unreadable.
Date: 19th century
Length: 21.5cm
Provenance: Purchased from the estate of the late Sharron Chapel.
