A wood netsuke of a small boy warming his hands. The child is seated, his knees and body pressed against the side of the Teaburi. The outside of the warmer is decorated with beautiful scrolling blossoms.
I look at this netsuke and can imagine it as my own boys out playing on a cold winter’s day, running into the house red cheeked and freezing cold, hastily squashing themselves against the warmest thing they can find (almost certainly leaving a trail of destruction behind them).
Once warm, I expect his next act was to ask his mother what was for lunch!
