A walrus ivory ojime depicting a karako who, when strung, appears to be climbing the himotoshi cord. I find the work on this little ojime to be incredible: the gentle movement in the korako’s clothes and his jacket decorated with a delicately incised floral pattern. His feet sit atop one another, steading him, and his little hands appear to grip the cord. If this were a 5cm tall netsuke it would be a lovely piece, but when one considers the scale, at only 1.9cm the work is even more impressive.
