A wood and lacquer netsuke depicting an awabi shell. The surface of the wood is lacquered, giving a very pleasing polish and tone to the surface of the wood. The top of the shell is decorated with several branches of seaweed lacquered in green and gold. The meat of the awabi has interestingly been lacquered in a creamy high polish lacquer that appears to imitate porcelain. The himotoshi is formed by two circular holes to the top of the shell.
Signed in a lacquered gold reserve Bokuzan
