A large and spirited netsuke depicting Hotei resting against a sack carved in wood. His robes hang loosely down from his shoulders, exposing his chest and rounded belly. The base is flat with the himotoshi formed of one large oval and one small circular hole, the ring of smaller hole in green-stained horn in the shape of a flower. I'm very fond of the carving of Hotei’s hands, face and feet.
Signed, Miwa Saku
Early 19th century
Probably the same one published in MCI, page 561 with line drawing and photo.
