A kagamibuta-style netsuke, the lid in extensive openwork with a two-toned wood bowl. A crane stands atop a branch of a cherry blossom tree. The bird is in silver, surrounded by blossoms in gold, silver and copper. The black around the bird and tree are all open work. The bowl, possibly in black persimmon wood, has a distinctive two-toned appearance, one side in a reddish-brown and the other a darker shade of brown. The surface of the bowl is sealed with clear lacquer, giving a lovely finish.
