A dark wood netsuke depicting a seated boy playing with a shishimai puppet. The boy is smiling with large inlaid eyes and has one hand raised inside of the puppet, the other holding the bottom. A well carved and nice take on what is a common theme from the 19th century Miwa carvers.
The himotoshi is formed by one large oval hole and one small circular hole, both lined.
Early 19th century
