A beautifully woven pipecase of musozutsu form. The surface of the rattan is lacquered and catches the light, reflecting a beautiful range of browns and reds. The outer edge of the case is lined with lacquered rattan, bearing a well rendered and unusual pattern.
To the surface of the case, a pair of herons stand in the reeds; a third bird, above them, is coming into land. The birds are lacquered in silver and the leaves of the reeds in various shades of gold, black, brown and grey-textured ishime lacquer.
